A friend in Germany shoots 300 meter competition with a Swiss made 6mm rifle. He refers to the cartridge as a 6mmPR (yes, that's a "P"). It appears to be something like a 6mm International, 6-250, etc. Can anyone identify it for me? I'd like to set him up with components and dies to load them since he's paying the equivalent of $4 per cartridge to get them from Switzerland.

I am at a loss for the cartridge designation. Backing into the question, a Swiss made 300 meter gun raises the question if it is a Tanner, one could be so lucky. I think the Tanner was chambered for the .308, 6.5/55, 7.5 swiss, and the 6mmBR. I suspect the the stamp on the barrell did not stamp the bottom of the "B" and thus looks like a "P". However this is purely speculation on my part. I suggest you find out who made the gun, and then if that leads nowhere, perform a cerrosafe mold to determine the correct chamber in the gun.
Again, I could be wrong.

The cartridge may be the 6x47 Swiss match (SM). The P puzzles me, might be for Patronen. RUAG CH is the only manufacturer and they're not currently importing new brass into the US. See here: RUAG 6x47SM.
Neal Johnson is selling once-fired 6x47SM brass, www.nealjguns.com , item #606X47SMBR .
Redding makes 6x47SM dies, and Dave Kiff and Pacific Tool & Gauge has the reamer.
If it's something else, we're baffled.

Now listen up, the moderator is pretty sharp. The clue is $4 per round and thus 6mmBR are all over Europe. However, the 6x47SM is mostly a Swiss round, expensive anywhere but in Switzerland. The rifle could be a Bleiker 300m gun which is offered in the 6x47SM chambering, per their web site. I could not find a Tanner web site, so I have no idea if Tanners are offered in the caliber or not.
Wonder how the 6x47SM would handle the 115? Very well I suspect.
After all of the sluething is over with, I would like to know the answer to this riddle.
Patronen is cartridges I believe.

6x47 is not good as 6 Norma BR in precision following some est made in Europe for top 300 meters shooters and far more costly than 6 Norma , the official adds say that a bigger case capacity that make a easy ( soft in pressure ) round to shoot perhaps but that really not the answer to pay 4 USD per round ... on a competition rifle and 60 shots match ISU make th einvoice at 240 USD !!!!!!
best is perhaps ti set back the barrel and rechamber in 6 BR NORMA but
EXTREMLY CAUTION : some swiss rifle 300 m have a a to big case protusion ( 7.5x55 action ) and that not handle enought the base of the 6 BR case and you get spilt case and gaz escape SO before to plan to rebarrel costly 300 m carefully check case protusion BEFORE TO GO TO THE HOSPTITAL
good shooting

I got one more piece of information this morning that may help. The cartridge is supposed to have and OAL of 65mm, and is also referred to as the 6mmx65. I'm trying to get a fired case or drawing so let's hang on. You guys have given us lots to think about - THANKS!!!

DanTec I agree with your statement, my friend states the 65mm is for OAL. None the less, I did find out the bullets are 6 and 8 grams which is roughly 90 and 120 grains. Let me work on getting that fired case and maybe we'll really have something to work with.

PatL,
YOu can order 6x47 brass directly from Ruag. It runs $0.65 each in quantities of 500pc. I have checked into this for a 300meter -1000yard gun. The RUAG brass is just AWESOME!!!! Better than either Lapua or Norma. It will drive the new 115gr bullet nicely.

Corbin,
Please tell us how you can get hold of the RUAG brass.
We've twice contacted Dynamit Nobel, RUAG's listed US agent, and we were specifically told they are not importing 6x47 brass into the US. Is there another importer? Do you have to communicate directly with RUAG in Switzerland?
I'd agree the 6x47 case and the new 115gr bullet seem to be a promising combination.
If you build such a project, please let us know how it develops.

Hi Guys, I came across your site when I put 'Swiss Match' into the Google search engine. I'm building a rifle chambered in Swiss Match but I'm struggling to get reloading dies. The Redding 6x47 ones which someone mentioned are based on the .222 case - unlike the 6x47 SM which has a .308Win. head. I'm based in the UK so I'm a bit closer to Switzerland - maybe I will have to go there if I get no response. Ruag, who make the brass, unfortunately don't make dies. I love the 6BR but I'm hoping the SM will be better. Cheers VinceB

Hi
This may be of help but then perhaps not! In two weeks time a take delivery of a rifle chambered in a wildcat configuration of my own design. Such is the 6X47 Swiss Match round necked to that most unpopular of bore diameters .250 (guess I'm still living in the age of Landis and Donaldson) and given the Ackley shouder traetment. I have christened it the "250 Klenchblaize". Why you ask? Good question! Actually, for no reason other than I wanted something very different and, judging by the confusion the 6X47SM has generated in its standard form in both the UK and US, this is most certainly what I have - a rifle chambered in something nobody else in the world has or would probably want given the poor selection of quarter bore bullets!
Early load development nonetheless shows promise, by which I mean an 87g Berger kicked in the **** with a case-full of Varget (horrible stuff to meter by the way, looking for all the world like H4350) will give ragged hole groups, and this whilst fire-forming!
But to the standard 6X47SM case as available from Ruag:
Virgin brass makes Laupa look positively agricultural!! It is not cheap though as the 500 I purchased made every effort to demonstrate! With regard to die/reamer availability as already mentioned elsewhere a call to Dave Kiff at PT&G will get you the best answers. All my dies; a selection of Newlon and Redding, were cut from PT&G made reamers. The Newlom die blanks (bullet seater and neck only bushing) were done by my gunsmith Callum Ferguson of Precision Rifles Scotland.
I hope to publish the full story of "my special rifle & cartridge" in a future edition of The Varmint Hunter journal.
Klenchblaize ENGLAND Ps: What happened to The Stark Bullet Company? PPS: Why can't we spell check these submissions before "posting"?!?!
