Australia's Mastin stock-makers produce a variety of wood laminate stocks for prone, Palma, High-power, and F-class shooting. The stock shown below is the new F-Class design, fitted with adjustable cheek-piece. The front half of the 3" wide fore-end has been thinned (in the vertical dimension) to provide a lower profile and better tracking. We found the cheekpiece comfortable and very easy to adjust with a single thumbwheel. The bottom of the stock has a 1/2" flat for stability. The front of the handgrip is completely vertical. Some people will like that, but we would probably reshape the wood to provide a bit of an angle.
One of the best features of the Mastin stocks is the optional V-block. For about $85 extra you can order a Mastin with the metal V-block installed. This makes attaching the action a simple bolt-in operation with no conventional bedding required. The Mastin stocks arrive inletted but without surface finish, so you will need to do a little sanding, and then clear-coat the stock.
Price of a Mastin stock, with adjustable cheekpiece and V-block, is about $650, depending on the model and accessories. The F-Class stock is ambidextrous, and you can order without adjusting hardware for a much lower price. Mastins are sold by Mac Tilton of
MT Guns in Santa Barbara, CA, (805) 720-7720. For more information and photos, click the link below:
